Ethiopia is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. However, rapid economic growth means little unless it improves the everyday lives of its citizens. The country continues to face significant debt pressures, while millions of Ethiopians struggle with rising living costs, unemployment, limited access to finance and declining purchasing power. My constructive criticism is this: the Ethiopian government must ensure that citizens have a greater stake in the country’s economic development. It should expand access to affordable financing, protect property and business rights, reduce unnecessary barriers and create diverse investment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Ethiopians across the country. True economic progress should not be measured only by GDP growth. It should also be reflected in job creation, household income, business ownership and a better standard of living for ordinary people.
